For years, milk products were vilified for their fat
content. And many people reject dairy as binding or bloating. Even Khloe Kardashian said that kicking
dairy out of her diet helped her get her revenge body. And even though
most of us struggle to quit cheese, yogurt, and ice cream (can I live?), we're
still curious as to whether ditching the food group will result in a bangin' bod.
Welp, tell the cows to come home! The most recent research
points to milk, yogurt, and even cheese as being beneficial for weight
loss, thanks to satiating fat (yes, you can skip the skim), protein, and
nutrients like vitamin D and calcium, which are crucial for burning flab. One
review in the International Journal
of Obesity found that people who ate the most dairy while on a
calorie-restricted diet lost an average 1.6 more pounds from their fat stores
than those on low-dairy diets. Boom.
As for intestinal distress, although less than half of 1
percent of adults are allergic to dairy, many more have some difficulty
digesting milk products. Recent research revealed that the culprit isn't always
lactose (a dairy protein some people can develop an intolerance to) but
rather a bloating and inflammation-causing protein called A1 beta-casein. A new
variety of milk that contains solely the more easily digested A2 beta-casein
can help and is becoming increasingly available.
